Nature Artwork For Mental Health

We were extremely proud to be invited to supply the new artworks for Deakin private Hospital Canberra.

Deakin Private Hospital will provide specialised high quality mental health care with positive patient outcomes for the ACT community.

Deakin Private Hospital represents a $27 million investment into the ACT’s mental health sector; built in partnership with Aurora Healthcare  and Barwon Investment Partners (Barwon, Fund Manager). Aurora Healthcare currently operates 1,000 mental health beds across NSW VIC, QLD and WA with the new; Deakin Private expanding the hospital operator’s footprint into the ACT.

“The end goal is always to assist in the healing process, so people leave hospital healthier and happier. We look at how patients will feel in the space, how they interact with the building and surrounds, how the building helps them interact with the environment in addition to the medically-led treatment and therapy provided by our expert clinicians” Australian CEO of Aurora Healthcare, Julia Strickland-Bellamy said

 Designing for wellbeing

Aurora healthcare in conjunction with HSPC architects have clearly designed this innovative space with wellbeing and biophilic design at the forefront.

Interior spaces with a biophilic design are based on a human connection with nature, purposefully integrating natural elements, materials, and life forms into architecture and design.

Deakin Private Hospital’s design is based on six key philosophies to best help people get well

identity |nature| active body and mind | independence| connectedness| peace

Stress mitigation has been built in this design process. Key features include green walls, natural wood feature walls, abundant sunlight, an outdoor basketball court  and outdoor views.

This ultimately provides a healing, holistic approach for patient health and employees.

Benefits of Nature and artwork

As biophilic designers we were thrilled to be a part of this project. Our artwork was a seamless addition to the existing interior colours and textures.

Our brief was to consult and install our artwork into all areas of the building.  Our vision was to ensure our artwork created intimate hubs of calm and relaxation in areas such as the interview rooms and lounge areas.

It was an incredible honour to be a part of this project.
